How is Progressive Bingo Played?

I often see fire houses advertising Progressive Bingo but how is it played. I read online that the game is played with fewer or that they call 49 and then if no one wins the pot goes up the next round until someone wins. Is that there are taken out of the game or is it that they call only a specified number of times? If so how many times? Any information appreciated! :)
