I'm a 21yr old Virgin, will my relationship work?

I've known this guy for five or six years. We've broken up and gotten back together many times over those years. He's finally getting his own place and wants me to move in with him. I love him and I know I always will. I'm in college an know that during the summer months I'll have nowhere to stay. My mom always complains when people come stay with her so I'd rather not stay with her, and my father is a whole nother headache all together. So I think it would be great to be able to stay with my oldest friend (rent free). But at the same time he's expecting if we co-habitat. Is he asking too much or am I just being ridiculous?
