How are the newer V6 Mustangs?

I see a lot of people ragging on v6 Mustangs, but 200+ hp in a fairly lightweight RWD car with gas mileage in the high 20s on the highway seems pretty good to me. However, I've heard stuff about Ford 4.0s not holding up well over time. I've got to replace my geriatric VW soon and it would be nice to get something cool but also dependable and not too expensive to drive on the 40 mile roundtrip commute. How reliable are they as daily drivers? I I'd much prefer a 5 spd, but most of the used ones I find at good prices are automatics. How are the auto transmissions in these, as well?
