Problems with my gums, who should i believe?

I was wearing an appliance in my mouth for about 14 months. The other day my orthodontist removed it because its job was done. The appliance covered my 3 back molars and they were sealed and glued down. there was no way to floss/ brush these teeth. So when it was removed there was an imprint of my gums that sort of sourounded where my retained used to be. it was swollen and it bled a lot, my teeth were also colored strange. I went to the dental right after and they said i had a severe case of gingivitis and said i had to brush after every meal because it was so bad. I went back to my ortho and they said it was completely normal and my teeth would go back to normal in a week, they said to not listen to my dentist. Im not sure who to listen to... what should i do?
