Do i get in touch with my dad after 3 yrs??

i havent spoken to my dad for over 3 years cos we never got on and we had a big falling out over3 years ago...he basically disowned me.... so my question is ...... should i try to get in touch to make amends.... or just leave it that we are no longer in touch??? cos i occasionally think about the situation...but other than that am quite ok with being independant from him & by myself??...also.... if i do get in touch.....how do i do it?? do i just turn up on the doorstep after more than 3 yrs ort send a letter ....etc......opinions wanted!!!!! thanks
